‘Bangladesh Jail’ name changed to “Correction Service Bangladesh”. The government has taken the initiative to change the name of Bangladesh Jail to ‘Correction Service Bangladesh’ to prioritize reforms and correctional activities in prison management.
On Tuesday (August 26), Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Syed Md. Motaher Hossain gave this information at a press conference after the draft of the Correctional Service Act 2025 was finalized.
He said that this initiative has been taken to make prisons not just a place of punishment, but also a center for correction and rehabilitation. The new law will ensure the welfare and security of prisoners, as well as strengthen correctional activities.
At the time, he also said that the government has approved the appointment of new posts to address the long-standing manpower crisis. In addition, a proposal has been sent to appoint 1,500 more manpower.
The Inspector General of Prisons said that an initiative has been taken to build a modern central prison hospital in Narayanganj to ensure improved medical services for prisoners.
Brigadier General Syed Md. Motaher Hossain said with humor that sometimes prisoners call him directly to tell him about their various problems.
He expressed hope that with the new name and law, it will be possible to transform the country’s prisons into true centers of correction and rehabilitation.
