Eastern University hosts ‘National Debate Competition 2025’. The grand finale and award ceremony of the ‘National Debate Competition 2025’ organized by the Eastern University Debate Club was held. The event was held at the university’s Rezakul Haider Hall today, Monday (September 29).
The event was chaired by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Farid Ahmed Sobhani, and Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, spoke as the chief guest. Abul Kashem Haider, founding chairman of the Board of Trustees of Eastern University, was present as the special guest.
In addition, the university’s treasurer, Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, registrar, Dr. Abul Bashar Khan, Debate Club Coordinator and Law Department Lecturer Meherba Sabrin, and the club’s president, Law Department student Sabit Ibne Mahmud, also spoke. The presence of deans of various faculties, heads of departments, and numerous students of Jahangirnagar University made the event lively.
In the final of the inter-college competition with the participation of 32 colleges, Government Bangla College and Government Science College faced each other. After a fierce competition, Government Science College won and Government Bangla College achieved the honor of runner-up. Emon Ahmed, a student of Government Bangla College, was selected as the best debater in this phase.
On the other hand, in the final of the inter-university competition with the participation of 28 universities, North South University and Bangladesh University of Textiles (Butex) competed. Butex won in this competition and North South University became the runner-up. Alvi Salman, a student of North South University, was selected as the best debater in this phase.
The organizers said that the main objective of this competition is to inspire the young generation of the country to practice rationality, free thinking and leadership.
