Instructions
Step 2 – After typing the IMEI number send it to 16002.
Step 3 – You will know the validity status of your own mobile handset through an instant return message.
Part-2: Legally purchased or gifted mobile handsets at individual citizen level from abroad will be automatically active in the network. SMS will be sent to the respective citizens to submit required documents or information via online within 10 (ten) days. If the registration is completed within 10 (ten) days, the handset will be considered as valid. If the registration is not completed within the stated time limit, then the handset will not be considered as valid and the subscribers will be informed regarding those via SMS keeping the handset active in the network for the trial period. After the trial period has elapsed, further steps will be taken according to the Government’s decision.
Let’s take a look at the permanent registration process of the purchased or gifted mobile handsets from abroad by providing the required information:
Step 1 – Register your personal account by visiting the link: neir.btrc.gov.bd
Step 2 – Go to the Special Registration section of the portal and enter the IMEI number of your mobile handset.
Step 3 – Upload a photo / scanned copy of the required document (whatever is required in the option; e.g. mobile handset purchase receipt, invoice letter, visa copy in the passport, immigration copy, etc.) and press the “Submit” button.
Step 4 – The mobile handset will be registered automatically if it is found valid. If the handset is not valid, you will be notified via SMS and kept connected to the network for a trial period. After the trial period has elapsed, further steps will be taken according to the Government’s decision. Alternatively, the described service can be availed through the help of the mobile operator’s nearest customer care.
In this case, it must be noted that according to the existing baggage rules, a person can bring a maximum of 2 free mobile handsets from abroad and 6 more subjects to payment of duty.
4Now, lastly let’s get to know, how will you be able to check the current status of your used mobile handset?
Step 1 – Go to the dial option of the mobile handset and dial *16161#.
Step 2 – Select the “Status Check” option from the options displayed on the screen.
Step 3 – An automatic box will appear, enter the 15 digit IMEI number of the mobile handset in the box and send it.
Step 4 – An automatic box including a “Yes” or “No” option will appear; select “Yes” to confirm.
Step 5 – You will be informed automatically about the updated status of your mobile handset via instant return message..
