Today is the Day to Appreciate Your Wife

Today is the Day to Appreciate Your Wife. Wife Appreciation Day is celebrated in the United States on the third Sunday of September every year. Since its inception in 2006, this day has gradually spread to many countries. The purpose is the same – to honor the contribution of a wife, to recognize her love, hard work, sacrifice and courage.

In our society, it is often seen that a wife’s work and contribution are taken for granted. We often neglect the fact that a wife is tired and struggles while managing everything – home, family, children, office. Yet she is the driving force of the family. Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam wrote: ‘All the great creations of the world are always beneficial, half of them are done by women, half by men.’

In the past, there was this idea that a family is happy only because of the qualities of women. Today, people believe that a family is happy with the hard work of both husband and wife, with equal sacrifice of both.

What is a wife really?

A wife is not just a companion, she is the support of life. Sharing happiness and sorrow together, giving courage in daily life, giving strength to dream—all these come from a wife.

Take an example from my own life. I am a teacher and a journalist. The pressure of family, the busyness of my profession, field work, writing—all of these things often create mental stress. But my wife, Anjumanara Lata—a practicing lawyer—is by my side. She not only handles the responsibilities of the family, but also becomes my emotional support. Her steadfastness inspires me anew every day.

I know that thousands of husbands in Bangladesh can say the same thing about their wives. But how many openly praise them? Today’s day reminds us—praise is not just a formality, but a necessity.

Why is it important to praise a wife?

Praise does not just mean giving flowers or gifting new clothes. Praise means—recognizing her importance. Letting her know that she is the main strength of the family.

Your wife may go to the kitchen 10 times a day, see your children’s studies, encourage you, and then continue to fight at her workplace. If we acknowledge this hard work with gratitude, then she will understand how valuable she is.

Contribution of wives to society:

In our society, numerous women are active in their careers along with running the household. They are teachers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, journalists or laborers—everyone is fighting for the family and society. Yet, very few days are given separate recognition for them.

Therefore, Wife Appreciation Day carries not only a personal but also a social message. It teaches us—it is important to be grateful to those who are silently sacrificing every day.

How to celebrate?

Wife Appreciation Day does not require any luxurious arrangements. A bouquet of flowers, a sweet smile, a few words of gratitude are enough. You can take her to a restaurant, or you can organize a small event at home. The main thing is to say from the bottom of your heart— `My life is full because of you.’

Today, as husbands, we can ask ourselves—when was the last time we told our wife, `You do a lot, thank you’? If you have trouble remembering, understand that appreciation is more important now than ever.

Wife Appreciation Day is not just a date, it is a reminder that a family is made stronger by expressing love, gratitude, and respect.

For me, today’s biggest message for wife Anjumanara Lata is: `You are not just my life partner, you are my courage, you are my inspiration. I am eternally grateful for your sacrifice and love.’
