UKM confers honorary doctorate on Professor Yunus. Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, has been conferred an honorary doctorate by the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in Malaysia. He was conferred the degree at the university’s convocation ceremony on Wednesday morning (August 13).
The university authorities said that the award was given in recognition of Professor Yunus’s unique contribution to the promotion of social entrepreneurship. Later, he will pay a courtesy call on Tuangku Muhrij Ibni Almarhum Tuangku Munawir, Chancellor of UKM and Ruler of Negeri Sembilan Province.
When Professor Yunus arrived at the venue this morning, he was welcomed by the university’s Chancellor. A red carpet reception was given to the Nobel Peace Prize-winning economist. After receiving the honorary degree, Dr. Yunus was accompanied by prominent Malaysian educationists, policymakers, university teachers and students, and the entourage of the Chief Advisor from Bangladesh.
Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus left for Malaysia on Monday on a three-day official visit.
