When will the BPL player draft be held, what is known. It was already hinted that the next season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) could be held towards the end of this year. Last Monday (June 30), Director Iftekhar Rahman Mithu also said something like this after the BCB board meeting.
On Wednesday (July 2), BPL Governing Board Chairman Mahbub Anam faced the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla. His comment about the draft there was, ‘First of all, we have made a timeline. I think the draft will not be held before October. Because, if we see the time we have, as I told the sports management company. If we can finish it by August, then we will go into the process of adding franchise teams. If we can finish it in September, then we may go into the draft in October.’
Meanwhile, this year’s BPL will start in December-January. Team ownership will be given for five years. The new BPL governing council will also have outside members.
Earlier, regarding the addition of foreign franchises, director Iftekhar Mithu had said, ‘(BPL franchise) is open to all. We have not fixed the criteria, a criterion will be fixed with the advice of those who have experience and those (agencies) who have done this successfully before. Then the board will decide. If those criteria are met, if everything is in order with our government’s policies, they (foreign franchises) will be able to take the team.’
