DUCSU Elections Candidates Campaigning Begins and Instructions Released. The campaigning for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Hall Students’ Union elections is starting today (August 26). The Chief Returning Officer of the election, Professor Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, has given instructions regarding the posters, leaflets and handbills of the candidates. It has also been informed that the campaigns can be conducted in the halls at specific times.
Such instructions were given in a notification on Monday (August 25). It said that black and white posters, leaflets or handbills can be printed and distributed. No candidate can use anyone else’s picture or symbol except his own black and white picture in the posters, leaflets or handbills.
No posters, leaflets or handbills can be put up on any type of establishment, wall, vehicle, fence, tree, electricity and telephone pole or any other standing object located in the university campus and hall area. No candidate’s poster, leaflet or handbill may be damaged.
It has also been stated in the instructions that no candidate or any student organization, any individual or group on his behalf will be able to conduct election campaign by writing, printing, printing or drawing on walls or vehicles with any ink or lime or chemical.
Another notification states that on the occasion of the DUCSU and Hall Parliament Election 2025, candidates who are non-residents of their own hall and resident and non-resident students of other student halls will be able to conduct election campaign in student halls. From August 26 to September 7, students can campaign from 10 am to 10 pm. And students can campaign from 10 am to 11 pm every day.
Social, financial and service cooperation or activities cannot be conducted on the designated days of campaigning. It is known that the candidates want to reach their words to the voters in four main ways. They want to campaign online or on social media, through posters or leaflets, banners and physically at the hall level and in front of the academic building.
In addition, candidates are not allowed to organize majlis-mahfils on campus or in halls or campaign in religious institutions. These will be considered a violation of the election code of conduct and in this case, it will be considered a punishable offense according to Section 17 of the ‘Election Code of Conduct’.
Chief Returning Officer Professor Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin also said that a meeting will be held with all VP, GS and AGS candidates at the Senate Hall at 11 am today to discuss the code of conduct.
The Chief Returning Officer said that candidates will be able to start their formal campaigning from today, Tuesday, in accordance with the rules. When it is time to vote, they can vote by showing their card, university ID card, library card or pay-in slip.
