The Pahelgam incident had reignited the political rivalry between India and Pakistan. Due to this, the India-Pakistan match in the group stage of the ‘World Championship of Legends’ (WCL) tournament was canceled. This decision was taken mainly because several cricketers from the Men in Blue camp withdrew their names.
This time, these two arch-rivals are going to face each other in the semi-finals. However, there are concerns about the match going ahead. In the meantime, an Indian sponsoring company has withdrawn itself in opposition to the match.
The Men in Blue finished fourth in the group stage after defeating the West Indies. On the other hand, they had one win and three losses and one match was canceled.
On the other hand, Pakistan finished top of the group. The Green Men won four matches. In addition, one match was canceled.
According to the tournament rules, the first and fourth-placed teams will play in the semi-finals. As a result, the match between India and Pakistan has been decided, which is now uncertain.
But the incident did not end here, earlier there was a lot of drama over the distribution of points in the group stage. India was happy to get one point, but Pakistan objected. However, in the end, both teams were given one point.
In this regard, the organizers told news agency ANI, ‘The England board was informed in advance that the India-Pakistan match will not take place. India did not object to the Champions Points. But Pakistan does not agree to the sharing of Champions Points. According to them, the match was canceled due to India’s objection. They are not responsible. Then why won’t they get full points?’
Meanwhile, although the former did not face each other in the league, the two arch-rivals have been placed in the same group in the upcoming Asia Cup. Besides, there is a possibility of them facing each other more than once.
