Internet prices reduced, effective start

Good news for broadband internet users! The Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) has announced that the 700 taka broadband internet package will now be available for 500 taka. This new rate has been effective since July 1 (Tuesday).

ISPAB said in a press release that currently, no ISP (Internet Service Provider) in the country is offering 5 Mbps speed packages; now, on average, everyone is providing 10 Mbps speed. Considering that, it has been decided to start the package at 500 taka.

Aminul Hakim, president of the organization, said, “We want Bangladesh’s position in internet services to improve further. If the government withdraws the Social Responsibility Fund (SOF) and Revenue Sharing, then in the future we will be able to provide a minimum of 20 Mbps bandwidth to customers as per the definition of broadband. He further said that many customers are reluctant to pay the 5 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) along with the monthly bill, even though this VAT is deposited into the state treasury by ISPs.

With this move by ISPAB, it is expected that the country’s broadband users will start getting better speeds at affordable prices.
