From Forgotten to Celebrated Reimagining Bangladesh’s Heritage in the Global Narrative

Dhaka, Bangladesh — Reimagining Bangladesh’s Heritage in the Global Narrative Lecture by Prof Sharif Shams Imon. Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage is fading — quietly, steadily — as despair replaces action. But it doesn’t have to be this way. In a compelling public talk titled “From Forgotten to Celebrated: Reimagining Bangladesh’s Heritage in the Global Narrative,” Professor Sharif Shams Imon will explore how other countries have turned heritage into a driver of development and global recognition through UNESCO and integrated conservation strategies.

Professor Imon is an internationally recognized expert in architectural and urban heritage management, with 28 years of teaching and consulting experience across 18 countries. He is a Professor of Architecture at North South University and serves as the President of ICOMOS Bangladesh, as well as an expert member of ICOMOS International Committees on Historic Towns and Cultural Tourism.

The lecture will take place on Thursday, 3 July 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at AUDI 801, North South University.
