The University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (বাংলাদেশ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় মঞ্জুরী কমিশন) was established on 16 December 1972 and later enacted as an autonomous apex body in Higher Education under the President Order No. 10 of 1973. The function of UGC was to cater the academic and financial needs and demands of the existing six universities in Bangladesh at that time. With time the higher education sector in Bangladesh has expanded significantly and now the functions of UGC are: allocation of funds to universities, facilitate the development of higher educational system in Bangladesh with main purpose of upgrading the qualities of teaching-learning at the tertiary level, encourage cutting-edge innovative research and development, and improve governance issues at the universities. Also, UGC is responsible for formulating higher education policy and quality assurance to meet the international standard and advise the Government accordingly.

** (a) Conflict among BoT (Board of Trustees) members of Britannia University, Sylhet International University, (b) The Ministry of Education approved the Queens University on 6/9/2015 to fulfillment of all conditions within one year. The deadline of compliance has been expired.
*** (a) ইবাইস ইউনিভার্সিটির বাড়ি নম্বর-২১/এ, সড়ক নম্বর-১৬ (পুরাতন-২৭), ধানমন্ডি, ঢাকা-১২০৯ ঠিকানাটি মহামান্য হাইকোর্ট ডিভিশনের ১ বছরের স্থগিতাদেশ থাকার জন্য (রিট পিটিশন নং ১২০১৭/২০১৬) কমিশনের ওয়েবসাইটে আপলোড করা হয়েছিল। বর্তমানে উক্ত স্থগিতাদেশ এর কার্যকারিতা ভ্যাকেট হয়ে যাওয়ায় ইবাইস ইউনিভার্সিটির উক্ত ঠিকানা কমিশনের ওয়েবসাইট থেকে delete করা হলো। বর্তমানে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অনুমোদিত কোন ঠিকানা নেই। (b) মহামান্য সুপ্রিম কোর্টের আপিল বিভাগের Civil Petition for Leave to Appeal No. 1967/2018 (out of Writ petition no. 4263/2018) এর আদেশ বলে দি ইউনিভার্সিটি অব কুমিল্লা এর উপরোক্ত ঠিকানা এবং প্রোগ্রামসমূহ আপলোড করা হলো। এ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিষয়ে বেসরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় আইন, ২০১০ অনুযায়ী পরবর্তী নির্দেশনা চেয়ে শিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয়ে পত্র প্রেরণ করা হয়েছে। কমিশন থেকে শিক্ষা কার্যক্রম পুনরায় শুরুর অনুমতি অদ্যাবধি প্রদান করা হয়নি|

(1) সাউদার্ণ ইউনিভার্সিটি বাংলাদেশঃ শিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয়ের ২৮/০৭/২০১৯ এবং ০২/০৯/২০১৯ তারিখের পত্রের নির্দেশনা অনুযায়ী সাউদার্ণ ইউনিভার্সিটি বাংলাদেশ কর্তৃক দায়েরকৃত ১৮৭৮৪/২০১৭ নং রিট মামলায় মহামান্য আদালতের স্থগিতাদেশ থাকায় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়টির স্বাভাবিক ছাত্র-ছাত্রী ভর্তি কার্যক্রম বন্ধ রাখা সংক্রান্ত কমিশনের ১৩/১২/২০১৭ তারিখের আদেশটি ০৯/০৯/২০১৯ তারিখ প্রত্যাহার করা হয়েছে। উল্লেখ্য, এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মালিকানা সংক্রান্ত ঘোষণামূলক মামলা ৪০২/১৬, ছাত্র-ছাত্রী ভর্তি না করা সংক্রান্ত রিট মামলা ১৮৭৮৪/২০১৭ এবং কমিশনের ওয়েবসাইটে প্রদর্শিত তারকা চিহ্ন(*)প্রদান সংক্রান্ত রিট মামলা ৭৩২৬/২০১৮ মহামান্য আদালতে এখনো বিচারাধীন রয়েছে। মহামান্য আদালত ১৮৭৮৪/২০১৭ নং রিট মামলায় সর্বশেষ ১১/০১/২০১৯ তারিখ থেকে পরবর্তী ০১ (এক) বছরের জন্য এবং ৭৩২৬/২০১৮নং রিট মামলায় সর্বশেষ ১৯/০৫/২০১৯ তারিখ থেকে ০১ (এক)বছরের জন্য স্থগিতদেশ দিয়েছেন [শিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয়ের উল্লিখিত পত্রদ্বয়ের নির্দেশনা অনুযায়ী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের নামের পার্শ্বে বর্ণিত তারকা চিহ্ন (***) প্রত্যাহার করা হয়েছে]
(2) BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) এর পরিচালিত Bachelor of Appreal Merchandising and Management এবং Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Fashion Studies প্রোগ্রাম দুটি ১০-০৩-২০২০ তারিখ থেকে কমিশন কর্তৃক অনুমোদিত বলে গন্য হবে।
