Comilla University passes budget of Tk 761 million

Comilla University passes budget of Tk 761 million. Comilla University has approved a budget of Tk 761 million for the upcoming fiscal year 2025-2026. Of this, Tk 69 million will be received from the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC), and Tk 71 million will come from its own income. This time, the BIMAC grant has increased by Tk 65 million compared to last year.

The university’s proposed budget was Tk 927 million, but the approved budget is Tk 761 million. That is, there will be a budget deficit of about Tk 166 million compared to the proposed demand.

Today, Monday (June 8) at 11 am, at the 104th meeting of the university’s highest forum, the Syndicate, held in the conference room of the administrative building, the university’s treasurer, Professor Dr. Mohammad Solaiman, presented the budget. After presenting the budget, the syndicate members expressed their opinions on various sectors and unanimously approved the budget. At the same time, the meeting also approved a revised budget of Tk 756.948 crore based on the government allocation for the fiscal year 2024-2025.

In the budget of Tk 761 crore, Tk 29.3 crore has been allocated for research, which is 3.85 percent of the total budget. In the previous fiscal year, Tk 26.1 crore was allocated for this sector. A policy has been formulated for scholarships and merit scholarships for students and the entire amount for this sector will be available as a grant from the government.

According to the proposed budget, 62.75 percent of the total budget will be spent on salaries, allowances and pensions, 26.49 percent on goods and services, 3.85 percent on research, and 6.91 percent on capital.

Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the university and Syndicate President Professor Dr. Md. After approving the budget, Haider Ali said, ‘The budget will be spent with utmost transparency and accountability.’

Treasurer Professor Dr. Mohammad Solaiman said, ‘In the 2007-2008 fiscal year, Comilla University’s budget was only 11 million taka. Today, it has increased to 761 million taka. The hope is that this time, although its own income has decreased slightly, government grants have increased significantly. In the future, efforts will be made to increase the budget further based on the needs of the university.’

He also said, ‘The allocation received from the UGC is still insufficient compared to the needs. However, initiatives will be taken to increase the budget further through discussions with the UGC in light of the revised budget.’
