Top 8 Govt Universities in Times Higher Education Impact Ranking. The eight government universities in the country are in the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking in 2025. The UK-based education magazine Times Higher Education (THE) has published its latest impact ranking for 2025. The organization published this ranking on Wednesday (June 18). This time, 8 government universities and 12 private universities in Bangladesh have been ranked in the ranking.
In THE ranking 2025, Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) is the first among Bangladeshi government universities and is ranked between 801- 1000th globally. Moreover, the remaining government universities in the list are Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Jahangirnagar University (JU), Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST), Dhaka University (DU), Rajshahi University (RU), Khulna University (KU), and Chittagong University (CU).
According to THE Raking 2025 for Bangladeshi Universities, Daffodil International University is the first among Bangladeshi universities and is ranked between 101 and 200th globally in this ranking. American International University, BRAC University, Green University, and United International University are jointly ranked second in the list, ranked 601- 800th.
The remaining private universities in the list are the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, the Independent University of Bangladesh, the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, the World University of Bangladesh, the Dhaka International University, the State University of Bangladesh, and the Barendra University.
In the THE Ranking 2025, Western Sydney University in Australia holds the number one position. It is followed by Manchester University in England. The ranking has been prepared based on 17 specific categories. These include, No Poverty; Zero Hunger; Good Health and Well being; Quality Education; Gender Equality; Clean Water and Sanitation; Of Dole and Clean Energy; Decent Work and Economic Growth; Industry Innovation and Infrastructure; Required Inequalities; Sustainable Cities and Communities; Responsible Consumption and Production; Climate Change; Life Below Water; Life on Land; Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and Partnership for the Goals.
The Times Higher Education (THE) website also provides a detailed explanation of the indicators considered in determining the rankings. It says that the teaching index is given importance in determining the overall quality of the university, i.e., the ranking. The second indicator looks at the reputation of the research work of the university concerned, research income, and the number and quality of research.
Another important indicator is research citations. In this case, the number of times a university’s published work is cited by researchers worldwide. The international outlook index looks at the university’s domestic and international student-staff ratio as well as international connections. Industry income looks at the ability of a university to collaborate with industry through discovery, innovation and consultancy.
