Bangladesh is currently ranked 10th in the ICC ODI rankings with a rating of 76. However, there is an opportunity for improvement ahead – the Tigers can climb to ninth place in the rankings if they get just one win.
A three-match ODI series is starting from Wednesday (July 2) at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, where Bangladesh’s opponent is Sri Lanka. If Bangladesh wins at least one match in this series, the rating points will stand at 77. Although the West Indies also have a rating of 77, Bangladesh will be ahead in terms of fractions, thus ensuring ninth place for the Tigers.
However, even if they whitewash Sri Lanka in the series, it is not possible for Bangladesh to climb to eighth place. In that case, Bangladesh’s rating will increase to 83, but it will remain in ninth place. Because there is a considerable gap with the team in eighth place.
On the other hand, if Bangladesh is whitewashed in the series, then the rating will drop to 74, leaving the Shakib-Tamim-less team at 10th place in the rankings.
Sri Lanka is currently ranked fourth with a rating of 104. However, if they lose the series to Bangladesh or even just one match, then they will have to drop to fifth place. To retain fourth place, the Sri Lankans must whitewash Bangladesh.
