Chief Advisor orders e-learning in 100 schools in Chittagong Hill Tracts. Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has ordered to start e-learning in at least 100 schools in the Chittagong Hill Tracts within this year by resolving all crises very quickly. He gave this instruction at a meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna on Wednesday (July 2).
The meeting was attended by Hill Tracts Advisor Supradeep Chakma, Liberation War Affairs and Disaster Affairs Advisor Faruk-e-Azam, Food and Land Advisor Ali Imam Majumder, Principal Secretary to the Chief Advisor Siraj Uddin Mia, and officials of the Primary and Secondary Education Department.
Officials said that there are three types of challenges in starting virtual learning in schools in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. There is a shortage of electricity in remote areas, there is no internet connection, and there is a lack of skilled teachers in the area to conduct such activities.
In this case, the Chief Advisor suggested solving the electricity shortage using solar panels and dealing with the crisis using mobile networks and Starlink services. In addition, to address the shortage of skilled teachers, he also suggested making a list of schools and appointing contract teachers in those schools for a specific period.
The chief advisor said, “To ensure the quality of education in the weak areas of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, a list of 100 schools should be prepared first, where internet-based schools should be started. What is lacking in each school – internet connection, equipment, etc. – should be listed, and work should be started as soon as possible. Classes should start within this year.”
“The skilled teachers who teach in big educational institutions in the city will teach math, science, and English to the children of the Chittagong Hill Tracts online. Then the children there will no longer be left behind. If they get good teachers and educational facilities, many talented children will emerge from there,” he added.
In the meeting, the Hill Advisor informed the chief advisor about improving the quality of life and livelihood in the three Hill Upazilas and preserving the environment. The chief advisor directed the plan to be coordinated with the concerned ministries in this regard.
